In conjunction with McVey Associates, Chapter members can email their coding questions and receive quick and comprehensive answers from an expert in advanced cardiology coding at no charge.

HAITI EARTHQUAKE RELIEF

As you will recall a suggestion had been made by MA-ACC members to encourage contributions to the impoverished country of Haiti in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. As we are in a position to help in easing the burden of the Haitian people a request for donations to the American Red Cross was circulated and I am proud to report that $3,200 had been raised in this effort with all of the contributions having been sent directly to the Red Cross. On behalf of the MA-ACC I would like to thank the following individual members who donated toward Haiti relief through the Chapter:

John Ferullo, MD, FACC
Abdul M. Khadra, MD, FACC
Georgianne Valli-Harwood, MD, FACC

Other donations had been made anonymously.

Our appreciation also goes out to those who made donations through organizations outside of the MC-ACC.

Sincerely,

Thomas C. Piemonte, MD
Governor, MA-ACC

Childhood Influenza Immunization CoalitionInfluenza claims more American lives every year than all other vaccine-preventable diseases combined. Children are particularly vulnerable to infection, and some may even die as a result of influenza. Each year, influenza causes about 20,000 hospitalizations and nearly 100 deaths in children younger than 5 years of age, yet vaccination rates remain low.  Many individuals – parents and health care professionals alike – don’t realize that it is beneficial to vaccinate against influenza well into the New Year.  Influenza outbreaks typically peak in February and continue until around May.  It is clear that vaccine given this January and beyond is of great benefit.

For more information, click on the following link at

  • Videos tailored to families/caregivers and health care providers, featuring expert Coalition members answering frequently asked questions on influenza and vaccination

  • Informational materials, like posters and brochures, geared toward families/caregivers and health care providers

  • A Spanish web site (www.prevengalagripeinfantil.org) hosting various educational materials

  • Multilingual materials available in Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog and Vietnamese
